Dialup Access

Description:

A dialup internet connection is as it's name implies. Using a standard modem (eg 56K Fax/modem, internal or external) you "dial up" via a standard telephone line each time you want a connection to be made. This is the most common way of accessing the net, although ADSL has many advantages over this system, in speed and connectivity.

ADSL Access

Description:

ADSL is an abbreviation for the words, Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line. This type of connection usually remains connected to the internet constantly. As soon as you turn your computer on, you are connected to the internet. This system also allows you to simultaneously make telephone calls without having to disconnect from the net.

ADSL - Plans & Pricing

A Standard on-site install includes connection of one PC with Windows operating system and having either a USB or Ethernet port available and functional. If neither port is available, one will be provided at an extra charge. Operating systems other than Windows (eg MAC, Unix) are catered for but may incur extra charges. Additional computers may be connected to the ADSL service but this will incur further charges for labour and for any hardware required.

Why a modem/router?
To ensure the safe and reliable operation of your ADSL Broadband service we include an ADSL modem/router rather than just a modem alone. The modem/router unit provides firstly firewall protection from Internet intrusion, and secondly a stable hardware platform for maintaining the Internet connection (no more having to run clumsy software on your computer to connect). A modem on its own provides neither of these features.
